How to make Strawberry syrup for cocktails

Did you know you can make fruit syrups with no cooking whatsoever? This process is called maceration, and it is a great way to make your cocktails more unique. Just combine sugar and fruit, shake it up, store in the fridge a few days, and your syrup will make itself! Maceration is the process of soaking fruit in sugar, and in the case of making syrups, it is typically done in a 1:1 ratio. As the fruit rests in the sugar, its juices are drawn out and mix with the sugar to create a syrup. This may take a few hours to a few days, depending on your ratio and ingredients. But honestly it is pretty fast! The essence of the fruit intensifies in this mixture, providing a concentrated flavor ideal for cocktail making. The resulting syrup can be strained and used immediately or stored in the refrigerator for future use.
